Derek was born December 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 PM.
Here is the story:
Thursday December 17th, 2009 I went to the hospital due to some cramps that I was having, the nurses monitored me and found out that my blood pressure was very very high and the doctor on call that day was contemplating if they should induce me, they decided not to and sent me home on strict bed rest orders and I had to go to the doctor the next day and my original OB appointment on Monday. At my Friday appointment I still had high blood pressure and they put me on a monitor to keep track of Derek's movements, he was doing just fine! On Monday, December 21st my blood pressure was still super high and my wonderful doctor did an exam and she told me that I was 3 CM and 90% effaced (basically I could have my baby at any time) she scheduled another appointment for me for Wednesday, December 23rd so monitor baby Derek. Wednesday rolled around (I had NO idea I would deliver Derek that evening, and I had an image in my head that when I gave birth my hair and makeup would be perfect and I would look amazing, hah yeah right ;) Anyways, I rolled out of bed and decided I didnt want to shower and I threw my hair up on top of my head and walked out of the house. The appointment didnt go very great and Derek wasnt responding or moving much during the monitoring session and my blood pressure had skyrocketed even higher... My OB promptly called the hospital and told me that I needed to go across the street and that I was having the baby that day! I was super excited but then remembered I looked like a mess basically... Once I arrived at the hospital at 10 AM they hooked me up to monitors and immediately started me on Pitocin to induce my labor. The doctor checked me and told me that I would have gone into labor on my own probably within the next couple of days but that it was important to get Derek out. I was scared out of my mind and I started crying. The doctor broke my water and after that I realized I was well on my way to meet my adorable son.
Labor was a breeze, I received an epidural at 4 CM and it was amazing! It was also a lifesaver to have my grandma (who is a labor and delivery nurse) with me the whole time! Around 6:00 my nurse checked and I was still only 6 cm dilated, she told me she was going to dinner and would be back in an hour... Okay fine I thought! At 6:45 I was talking with my grandma and I started crying from intense pressure I was all of a sudden feeling, I told her I had to go to the bathroom and that she was going to have to carry me since I couldnt walk ;) Yeah right! My grandma started freaking out and ran to go get my other grandma who got another nurse, they checked me and I was 10 CM and ready to have Derek! I was thinking in my head "what is going on, how did i progress 4 CM in 45 minutes?!" I pushed for an hour and a half and then my beautiful son was born into the world! It was the best feeling ever :)
